Add Softphone to User in Portal
To configure a softphone, browse to the 'Edit Phones' page for the user.
Click the "Add Phone' button to create a new device.
Naming Phones - When creating multiple devices for a User, it is strongly recommended that you use the User's extension number plus a single alphabetic character, such as 1001a for the device Name. In this way you can create many devices for a single user (eg. 1001, 1001a, 1001b, 1001c etc.).
Click on the ‘Edit’ icon for the SIP Device that you wish to configure.
In the Edit Phone form that is displayed, choose ‘Manual or Softphone’ in the Model selector as shown in the image below. This will cause the page to display the SIP credentials that must be entered into the softphone, including:
- SIP Username
- SIP Password
- SIP Server (sometimes called Domain or Proxy)
- SIP Outbound Proxy
The image below shows the configuration screen for the free Counterpath X-Lite softphone. You can download the X-Lite softphone from http://www.counterpath.com/x-lite-download.html or use any other SIP compatible softphone that supports the Outbound Proxy setting.
It is important to be aware that the SkySwitch system requires the use of an Outbound Proxy (sometimes this is just called a Proxy). Therefore, you cannot use a SIP Device that does not support this standard SIP parameter.
